Hi, I’m Rebecca. I make a living writing code. I’m motivated by solving problems I can relate to, which usually involve making people’s lives easier. My goal is always to understand the user and create solid and extensible software. I’m relatively language/tech agnostic and I do my best to follow best practices and think about the next developer who will work on a piece of code.
Currently, I’m the head of technology at Gracious Eloise, where we’re building a platform that allows businesses and individuals to send handwritten notes from their computer. It’s pretty awesome.
I started my “career” by being told to go and learn ASP .NET. I developed .NET web and desktop apps for non-profits and government agencies for a couple years and then I moved to an investment bank where I worked on a risk system (I know, I know) with a Java backend and C# frontend. Investment banking and business suits were not for me.
I headed into the start-up world and have been there ever since. I’ve worked on lots of web apps in ASP .NET MVC, Ruby on Rails, Javascript (jQuery), etc as well as some iPhone apps in Objective-C (BOO!) and MonoTouch.
I still occasionally freelance and work as default developer and tech-support for family and friends (sigh …). I’m also an on-call developer at the Offbeat Empire and a contributing editor at Offbeat Bride.
In my spare time, I play guitar and write songs, make jewelry and ribbonwork, hang out with my husband and awesome, crazy black pug, read, and occasionally write non-tech stuff.
I’ve always had a diverse and sometimes totally random set of interests, which is probably why my public GitHub page is so sparse.
I love cupcakes and crab rangoon. I live in Sunnyside, Queens, which is definitely the best place to live in New York City.
